originally from hannover, mat.joe are up next on hot trax with a release that is straight up raw techno at its best. german production duo delivers two killer new tracks for a great hottrax double-header. nonstop nonsense is a massive barnstormer of a track, thats been massive for jamie jones its a bit of a beast! dat cream is a refreshing bass driven rib rattler of a track grabbing you by the scruff of the neck and shaking you senseless. joining forces to create a formidable duo are best friends matze and johannes. after bonding over a mutual love for hip-hop, breakdance and skateboarding they soon started to produce music together. having previously released on defected, snatch! gruuv and off recordings among others this release is their debut on the grittier hot trax imprint.

the second of two zentrum spinoffs is with us! as with the first, it comes loaded with four remixes. octo octa, vito & druzzi, cooper saver and turbotito, and lemonade all handed in top-notch reimaginings of tracks off jacques renault s debut lp, which came out just under a year ago, and they all somehow manage to be unique unto themselves while also sublimely bleeding into one another. octo octas rendering of mi casa samba serves as a propulsive beginning thats as dark and druggy as it is sharp and focused. vito & druzzis take on faith runs in a similar vein, but in a more stripped-back, drawn-out, and patient sort of way, it is nearly ten minutes long, so this is perhaps not a surprise. the b s remixes are brighter, sunnier, though that s not to say they re not bold. cooper saver and turbotito s redo of words has a certain funky swing to it that, paired with spacey synths and balearic bells and whistles, makes it ideal daytime disco fodder. the lemonade boys close the ep with their vibey take on faith. pads for days, a plump bass, and a focus on the original s sax make you wonder if the song itself somehow got stoned from a couple extra giant bong rips. a fitting way to end both the 12inch and the summer.

given that cocktail d amore s first entry into the re-edit arena, cockring d amore, landed almost a year ago, this follow-up is long overdue. whereas that ep featured a trio of reworks from the extended family, both tracks on this solid 7- (snigger) come from berlin-based dj/producer trent. he begins with the cheery european disco of -the acrobat-, where prominent horn lines rise and fall over slick funk guitars and shimmering strings. flip for the cosmic disco-meets-cosmic rock masculinity of -the fool-, a killer fusion of elastic slap bass, eyes closed guitar solos and occasional blasts of glam rock vocals. whip off your t-shirt and get to it (dancing, that is).

fresh sci-fi hip hop from melbourne! the deep above the noise album picks up where his highly regarded classic codes over colours (2005) left off. with a vast array of instrumental landscapes & guest contributions from guilty simpson, miles bonny, coma-chi (japan), notes to self bbrc and momo (iammmxo). deep above the noise is a heavy hitting affair from start to finish, this is just the start of the next chapter of the plutonic lab story.

hot off the back of his debut lp for delroy edwards’ la club resource as alter-ego innyster, seixlack serves up an ep of trademark, super raw, machine funk. spanning the full gambit of dredged up acid, synth stacked daydreams and straight up 4x4, the breadth of this ep showcases a real talent.

polish wunderkind selvy inaugurates no bad days with the pops ep, four tracks of tropical & grandiose house music. pops opens up with a bold statement in ‘wishing well’, a peak­time epic with the sort of disney­via­john carpenter sweeping flourishes. following that is ‘basics’, perhaps the most playful of all the tracks: all bouncy synth melody, groovy bassline and dreamy pads. on the flip, ‘bump pump’ is arguably the most energetic helping on the ep, a percussive workout with gongs and all. if crash bandicoot was to make house music, this is close to how he’d sound. rounding the release off is the title track ‘pops’, perhaps the most original and subtle track with colourful vhs synths and strange sounds pinging across the mix.

drawing off the sound of his earlier work, the space loop ep mashes together the more ambiguously low pass-filtered style of ambient house with the thumping and racheting sounds of space station manoeuvring, interstellar mechanics and cloud-skimming high-altitude plane excursions.

the soul behind these recordings is rama dyushambee. not only a vocalist, mr. dyushambee also plays tenor saxophone too. he even produced, composed and arranged the entire album. the music on here is hard to categorize. the basic feel of the songs is jazz, but you also find a portion of funk and lots of spirituality in them too. if you like your jazz funky - check out this album. if you like your funk jazzy - check out this album. generally, if you like music with soul then you can t go wrong with orbit in space.
